My Story
Hello, my name is Melanie ~ Welcome to my site.
I am a fully qualified humanistic integrative counsellor/therapist and a registered member of
the British Association of Counselling and
Psychotherapy (BACP).
When I first went to therapy, I remember feeling tense, nervous, awkward, worried and afraid; there were two factors that I had found myself focusing on that were contributing to me feeling that way;
1. Whether I would be able to meet my therapist's expectations
2. Whether I would be able to give myself permission to be me enough to sufficiently gain from therapy.
It took me several sessions before I felt comfortable enough to be myself and fully open up to my therapist. I continued to develop a trusting relationship by staying in therapy, enabling me to achieve a significant amount of personal growth and change. My experience of therapy created a deep desire inspiring me to become a therapist,
I aim to support others on their desired journey; I do this by giving away the unconditional support I received from my therapist throughout my journey of self-discovery, change, and development.
I believe the relationship between the client and myself is key to successful therapy. Therefore, I aim to help you feel comfortable enough to be yourself and explore any concerns or issues during our sessions.
The benefit of being an integrative counsellor is that I can offer you a combined approach to the therapy, bringing together different elements, approaches and therapeutic tools from various theories and techniques to enhance our work together, as it aims to provide a unique, bespoke and personalised therapy suited to your unique needs.
To support your capacity for growth and change, I endeavour to keep you and your needs at the centre of our work. Being an empathic person, I can communicate an understanding of another person's experience from their perspective.
I am trained in various psychotherapeutic theories and approaches, and I have a vast amount of personal experience I can offer to our relationship.
I am fully insured for public liability and professional indemnity. I have a regularly checked DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service). I receive private supervision to support my work and update my professional status through Continuing Professional Development. I also work within the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure a safe & professional practice.
